My Morning Jacket's new LP, the tersely titled Z, is out in stores for you to purchase today, which you should absolutely do because 1) it's one of the best rock albums of the year, and 2) it features the smooth ivory stylings of my friend and fellow Cleveland sports sufferer Bo Koster. If you were reading this blog back when I was actively updating it, you'll remember the endless (most would probably say tiresome) rants about the Cavs rapid ascent and rapider collapse ("rapidest" we'll use for what the Indians just heartbreakingly did). When he wasn't on the road with the band, Bo was here to suffer through the eighty-two games with me. This year, it looks like heavy touring to support MMJ's breakthrough LP will leave me watching what could be LeBron's first MVP season solo, but, y'know, when you've got the opportunity to be playing Madison Square Garden with the Black Crowes on New Year's Eve, sacrifices must be made.
Despite this slight betrayal, I'm going to buy my copy of Z today, and, of course, check out the band when they play the Henry Fonda Theater this November (here's a full list of tour dates). Good luck, ya brilliant bastards!
(BTW, My Morning Jacket is also featured in Cameron Crowe's upcoming ELIZABETHTOWN as "Ruckus".)
